New Orleans Permaculture Action Day w/ Rising Appalachia

Join us for the southernmost stop on the Permaculture Action Network’s Solidarity Tour with Rising Appalachia.
Show up in support of Food Sovereignty & Security and Alternative Economies
Grow On Urban Farms – 2358 Urquhart Street, New Orleans, Louisiana

Projects will include :
– Rebuilding Outdoor Community Kitchen
– Installing a Rain Garden
– Planting Fruit Trees and Other Perennials
– Turning and Sifting Compost
– Building a 2nd Story for Shipping Containers
– Clearing and Re-Beautifying Adjoining Lot

1:00pm Native Plant Walk or Fire Cider Making w/ Rachel Reeves
1:30pm Decolonizing the History of New Orleans & Indigenous Histories
2:00pm Food Apartheid and the History of Southern Crops w/ Jamal from SUA
2:30pm Twanz DJ set
3:00pm MadeGroceries live hip-hop set
3:30pm Zero Waste Workshop w/ Corinne from Pussy PowerHouse
4:00pm Mushroom Growing Workshop demonstration w/ All You Need Institute
5:00pm Clean up and get ready for community Art Walk
A jambalaya and lunch spread will be offered at 1pm (free!); feel free to bring something to add to the potluck! Feel free to bring tools, work gloves, and other offerings as well!

Sneak peak of some of the workshops:
SOLITARY GARDENS in coming through hosting letter writing to incarcerated folks, and stuffing seed packets for their anti-oppression/ abolitionist toolkit.
Groundwork New Orleans‘s Youth Green Team will be leading a workshop and project install of a rain garden and stormwater management system.
Pecan milk workshop – harvesting, shelling, blending all on site!
All You Need Institute – Mushroom Growing Workshop at 4!
